Electromagnetic diaphragm pumps are often referred to as linear air pumps. Most people would recognize them as aquarium air pumps; they look like a toaster. They use an electromagnetic system that oscillates the diaphragm and creates a steady flow of air. They are simple but very durable and this is the quietest way to create air pressure. But silence brings limitations and they provide no more than 6-7 psi or 0.41-0.48 bar pressure for larger models and most operate at a maximum of 3-4 psi or 0.21-0.28 bar.
With the right type of air diffuser, they are ideal for shallow water gardens.
